The Monolith Console Table

A long, thin travertine top — rounded at every corner, almost impossibly slender in profile — cantilevers dramatically over a single tapered cone base, wider at the floor than at the top, its surface layered with the natural horizontal banding that only genuine travertine carries. The top overhangs the base on all four sides, the narrow stone slab appearing to float above the cone with a tension that makes you look twice to confirm it is real.

Both pieces are cut from the same travertine — the same warm cream and shell tones, the same natural voids and sedimentary lines running through the material — so the console reads as a single geological object, as though it was shaped from one continuous piece of ancient stone rather than assembled from components.

The cone base is the detail that does everything. Wider than a cylinder, narrower than a plinth, it grounds the piece with mass while the tapered form gives it a dynamism that keeps it from ever feeling heavy. The top does the opposite — impossibly thin for a stone surface, elegant in its restraint.
